A Land Steeped
in History
Archaeological discoveries reveal that this land has been inhabited since prehistoric times. In the Middle Ages, Col San Martino was a small fiefdom dominated by a modest fortress that once crowned the hill now home to the Church of San Martino. The territory belonged to the noble Collalto family until the late 14th century, when it became part of the Republic of Venice along with the rest of the Treviso region. By the 18th century, the area was divided into two municipalities: Col San Martino on the right bank of the Raboso River and Posmon on the left.
From War to a
New Beginning
Col San Martino paid a heavy price during the First World War. During the Battle of Caporetto – fought on the southern banks of the Piave River – many soldiers and civilians lost their lives. The area suffered extensive damage to homes and infrastructure. After the war, the Italian government granted a small plot of land and a wooden shelter to returning families. Our family was among the beneficiaries. In time, once my father reached adulthood, he built Le Gravette with the help of friends. The house was constructed in several stages, depending on the financial resources available. In 2025, the house was fully renovated to improve its comfort and energy efficiency. Now equipped with photovoltaic solar panels, it is completely energy self-sufficient.

the Region
Prosecco Hills – World Heritage Site
The hills where « real » Prosecco DOCG is produced became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2019. Small vineyards on steep slopes, a few forests here and there and typical buildings give this place its unique character. There are many hiking trails to explore throughout the year.
Treviso – The Little Venice
Treviso is a charming mid-sized city that can be visited year-round. The locals gather at Piazza dei Signori, home to the Palazzo dei Trecento and the elegant Loggia Dei Cavalieri. The Sile and Cagnan rivers weave through the city, giving its historic center—still surrounded by ancient walls—a unique and enchanting atmosphere.
Conegliano – The City of Prosecco
The second-largest city in the province of Treviso, Conegliano is best known for its wine, particularly dry white Prosecco made from the Glera grape. The city is also home to Italy’s oldest and most prestigious wine school.
Bassano del Grappa – Home of the Ponte degli Alpini
Bassano del Grappa is famed for its iconic wooden bridge and for its signature spirit, grappa. A stroll along the Brenta River to admire the bridge, followed by a tasting of local grappa, is simply a must.
Asolo – The Village of a Hundred Horizons
Asolo is a beautiful medieval village, officially recognized as one of Italy’s most beautiful villages. Beloved by writers and artists, it offers spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.
Just before reaching Asolo, be sure to stop at Villa Barbaro in Maser—a true gem. This UNESCO World Heritage site was designed in the mid-16th century by renowned Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio. The villa’s interiors are adorned with exquisite frescoes by Paolo Veronese, making it one of the most stunning villas in the world.
Follina – A Spiritual Retreat
Also recently added to the list of Italy’s most beautiful villages, Follina is known for its peaceful, spiritual ambiance. At its heart lies the Cistercian Abbey of Santa Maria, an artistically significant complex and one of the most beautiful and well-known in the region.
Possagno – The Village of Canova
Possagno is the birthplace of Antonio Canova, the renowned neoclassical sculptor. Visitors can explore the Tempio Canoviano and the Gypsotheca, a museum dedicated to the artist, which houses the plaster models of his most celebrated works.
Venice – The City of the Doges
Last, but certainly not least, from Le Gravette you can easily take a day trip to Venice—either by car or, preferably, by train from Conegliano station. The train journey is particularly scenic, offering a stunning view as it crosses the lagoon by rail.
